What is Amy Robach's Net Worth?

Amy Robach is an American news journalist who has a net worth of $5 million. A portion of Amy Robach's fortune is attributable to her former husband Andrew Shue, an actor who became a highly successful internet entrepreneur. Amy Robach is an American television reporter who has spent the majority of her career at ABC News, appearing on shows like "20/20" and "Good Morning America." Andrew Shue is the founder of Cafemom.com, an internet portal geared towards women and mothers that, at various times, has been one of the most successful female-focused properties online. Cafemom eventually morphed into Cafe Media, which today is one of the largest and most successful ad representation firms on the internet.

Early Life

Robach was born on February 6, 1973, in St. Joseph, Michigan. She grew up in East Lansing, Michigan, before her family moved to St. Louis, Missouri, while she was in elementary school. Just before high school, her family moved again to Georgia. She attended Brookwood High School in Snellville, Georgia, and then enrolled at the University of Georgia. She graduated with her bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism, receiving high honors due to her grades. While in college, she also competed in various beauty pageants and made it all the way to the 1995 Miss Georgia pageant, where she was the 4th runner-up.

Career

In 1995, Robach began her career in broadcast journalism at WCBD, a television station in Charleston, South Carolina. She remained there until 1999, when she left to work at WTTG in Washington, D.C. She then moved to MSNBC in 2003, where she remained for four years. During this time, she was able to begin anchoring for a couple of hours in the morning and also would occasionally fill in on shows like "Weekend Today," "Countdown with Keith Olbermann," and "Morning Joe." In 2007, she was named the official co-anchor on "Weekend Today." She remained in that role until May 2012, when she announced that she would be moving to ABC News.

Robach's career with ABC News began with appearances on "Good Morning America" as a correspondent. In March 2014, it was announced that she would become the show's anchor. She remained in that role until 2018, when she became the new co-anchor of 20/20. The two-hour Friday evening program featured human interest stories, true crime, and more long-form investigative journalism and is seen as a competitive for "Dateline NBC."

In March of 2020, Robach also began hosting "Pandemic: What You Need to Know" on ABC. The daytime program focused on the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, replacing the show "Strahan, Sara & Keke." Eventually, as the pandemic became less newsworthy, the network decided to transition the show to "GMA3: What You Need to Know," which focused on a more diverse set of topics. Robach remained on the show as host.

Jeffrey Epstein "Hot Mic" Incident

In November of 2019, Robach was embroiled in a scandal involving Jeffrey Epstein. Project Veritas, a conservative activist group, released a "hot mic" video in which Robach is heard discussing how ABC shut down a story she had worked on in 2015 about the billionaire convicted sex offender. The release of the video came only days after NPR reported that ABC had failed to broadcast an interview with Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein's victims, in which Giuffre describes how she was trafficked by Epstein to powerful men like Prince Andrew.

In the hot mic video, Robach is heard describing how her story discussed the allegations against Epstein in Prince Andrew, as well as other prominent figures like Harvard University professor Alan Dershowitz, former President Bill Clinton, and Ghislaine Maxwell. She also describes one of the reasons her story never aired, which was that the Royal Family found out about it and threatened ABC if they were to broadcast the story and the allegations against Prince Andrew. She describes her own anger and frustration in the video.

After the hot mic video leaked, Robach publicly responded, saying that while she had been frustrated at the moment, the reason her original story had never aired was due to its inability to meet ABC's journalistic standards, as there was a lack of corroborating evidence to support the story at the time. ABC also clarified that they continued investigating the story.

Personal Life

Robach married Tim McIntosh in 1996. The couple were married for 12 years before filing for divorce in 2008. During their marriage, they had two daughters – Ava in 2002 and Analise in 2006.

A year after divorcing, Robach announced she was engaged to actor Andrew Shue, formerly of "Melrose Place." The two had met at a book party the year before. On Robach's 37th birthday in 2010, the couple married at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers by the Hudson River in New York City. Through marriage, Robach now has three stepsons – Nate, Aidan, and Wyatt.

In November of 2013, Robach announced on "Good Morning America" that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. The results followed a mammogram that she had received live on television a month earlier, which revealed the cancer. She then took time off the air to undergo treatment, including a bilateral mastectomy. In November 2013, she revealed that doctors had found another malignant tumor and that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes. She went through eight rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, and reconstructive surgery. As of March 2022, Robach has stated that she is cancer-free.

In August 2022, it was revealed that Amy and Andrew had separated, reportedly after it was discovered that she was having an affair with her GMA3 co-anchor, T.J. Holmes.
