Early Life
Piper Perabo was born on October 31, 1976, in Dallas, Texas. She is named after the actress Piper Laurie. She is of Portuguese and Norwegian descent. Piper grew up in Toms River, New Jersey, and is the eldest of three children. She is the daughter of Mary Charlotte Ulland, a physical therapist, and George William Perabo, a professor of poetry at Ocean County College. In high school, she appeared in all four yearly musicals, playing a dancer in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," Cousin Fan in "Mame," Lady Brighton in "Me and My Girl," and Katie in "Meet Me In St. Louis."
Piper graduated from Toms River High School North in 1994. She graduated with a theater degree summa cum laude from Ohio University in 1998. She was first noticed by talent agents before she graduated college. She was visiting her then-boyfriend in New York City and went with him to an audition. Casting director Denise Fitzgerald spotted her and asked her to read for a part. After graduating college, Piper moved to New York, where she worked as a waitress and studied acting at the La MaMa Experimental Theater Club, where she had various roles in different plays.
Piper was later cast in a short film called "Single Spaced." Her first big role came after that, where she played the girlfriend of a wannabe rapper in 1999's "Whiteboyz." In 2000, she was cast in "The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle" as FBI agent Karen Sympathy.
