Mark Margolis was born on November 26, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Mark's parents, Isidore and Fanya, were Jewish immigrants. Margolis briefly attended Temple University, but he dropped out when he decided to move to New York City. When Mark was 19, he began taking classes with Stella Adler at the Actors Studio, and he later studied with Barbara Loden and Lee Strasberg.

Career

Margolis made his film debut with an uncredited role as a bartender in 1975's "Report to the Commissioner," then he appeared in the films "The Opening of Misty Beethoven" (1976), "Short Eyes" (1977), "Going in Style" (1979), "Dressed to Kill" (1980), "Christmas Evil" (1980), and "Eddie Macon's Run" (1983) and the TV movies "The Other Side of Victory" (1976), "Muggable Mary, Street Cop" (1982), and "Rage of Angels" (1983). Mark played Alberto "The Shadow" in 1983's "Scarface" alongside Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer, and he appeared in 1984's "The Cotton Club" and 1989's "Glory," which both earned Golden Globe nominations for Best Motion Picture – Drama. From 1985 to 1989, Margolis had a recurring role as Jimmy on the CBS series "The Equalizer," and around this time, he appeared in the films "The Bedroom Window" (1987), "The Secret of My Succe$s" (1987), and "White Hot" (1989). Mark married Jacqueline Petcove on June 3, 1962, and they welcomed son Morgan in 1968. Morgan followed in his father's footsteps and became an actor. In July 2017, Margolis underwent emergency brain surgery after falling on the set of "Better Call Saul." Mark's rep later explained: "Doctors discovered minor brain swelling and performed a routine procedure to reduce it."
