Efren Ramírez was born Efrain Antonio Ramírez on October 2, 1973, in Los Angeles, California. Efren's parents came from El Salvador. Ramírez is one of five brothers, and his identical twin, Carlos, has appeared in more than 40 film and television projects, such as the 2021 Matt Damon film "Stillwater." Efren began taking theatre classes when he was in elementary school, and he kept up with it while attending an all-boys high school so he could meet girls who attended the all-girls high school.

Ramírez made his film debut in 1994's "Tammy and the T-Rex," then he co-starred with Pauly Shore, Tia Carrere, Brian Doyle-Murray, Stanley Tucci, and Abe Vigoda in 1995's "Jury Duty" and with Shaquille O'Neal in 1996's "Kazaam."
