Early Life
Rohan Marley was born Rohan Anthony Marley on May 19, 1972, in Kingston, Jamaica. His father was reggae artist Bob Marley, and his mother, Janet Hunt, was 16 years old when Rohan was born. From the age of 4, Marley lived with his mother on and off, and after Bob died of cancer in 1981, he moved in with his paternal grandmother, Cedella Booker, in Miami, Florida. Rohan attended Miami Palmetto Senior High School, and after graduating in 1991, he enrolled at the University of Miami School of Business. During his time at the University of Miami, Marley was a linebacker on the school's football team, leading the team's defense in 1993 with 95 tackles.
Career
Rohan played professional football for the Canadian Football League the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1995. In 2009, he co-founded the "organic coffee plantation and sustainable farming business" Marley Coffee in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica, and the company went public in 2011 under the name Jammin Java. Marley Coffee features blends named after Bob Marley songs, such as "Get Up Stand Up" and "Buffalo Soldier," and according to the company's website, the coffee is Fair Trade Certified, ethically farmed, and "made with love to unite people around the world."
Rohan is the founder of the RoMarley Beach House in Mexico. Located at The Fives Oceanfront luxury hotel in Puerto Morelos, the RoMarley Beach House was described as an "elevated beach club that offers mouthwatering food, creative mixology, and endless music for the hotel's guests" by "Haute Living."
From 2018 to 2019, Marley starred on the Canadian docuseries "A Taste of Marley," which followed him as he went "on a journey to explore the food and music of his native Jamaica."
Personal Life
During his sophomore year in college, Rohan married Geraldine Khawly on March 18, 1993. They welcomed daughter Eden (born 1994) and son Nico (born 1995) before divorcing in 1996. Nico played football at Tulane University and signed with the Washington Redskins in 2017.
Marley and musician Lauryn Hill met in 1996 and had five children together: Zion (born 1997), Selah (born 1998), Joshua (born 2001), John (born 2003), and Sara (born 2008). Selah is a singer and fashion model who has graced the covers of magazines such as "Flaunt," "Wonderland," and "L'Uomo Vogue." Rohan and Lauryn split up in 2009, and in 2013, Marley had temporary custody of their children while Hill served three months in prison for tax evasion.
