Fred Figglehorn
Through his YouTube channel JKL Productions, which he created with his cousins Jon and Katie, Cruikshank originally introduced the character of Fred Figglehorn in June of 2006. The first official video starring the character was uploaded a few months later. Finally, in May of 2008, Cruikshank officially launched the "Fred" series with the video "Fred on May Day." Focused on the titular character, a cranky, hyperactive six-year-old who speaks to viewers about his dysfunctional home life, the series went on to achieve enormous success. In 2009, Cruikshank's "Fred" YouTube channel became the first ever to cross one million subscribers. He subsequently released two comedy albums as the character: "It's Hackin' Christmas with Fred" and "Who's Ready to Party?" The continued popularity of Fred resulted in a franchise consisting of three Nickelodeon television films and a series. The first film, "Fred: The Movie," aired in 2010. It was followed in 2011 by "Fred 2: Night of the Living Fred," with "Fred 3: Camp Fred" concluding the trilogy in 2012. Also in 2012, Nickelodeon aired "Fred: The Show"; disastrously received, the series was canceled after one season, leading to the retirement of the Fred character.
Other YouTube Appearances
Cruikshank has made other YouTube appearances outside of his Fred character. He has appeared as himself on his channel "Lucas," and partnered with fellow YouTuber Jennifer Veal from 2013 to 2014 to produce a series of videos for the channel. In 2011, Cruikshank guest-starred in an episode of the superhero action comedy series "Supah Ninjas." After "Fred: The Show" was canceled in 2012, he began starring on another Nickelodeon series, "Marvin Marvin." Cruikshank played Marvin Forman, an alien teenage boy struggling to acclimate to human life in Portland, Oregon. The show ended in the spring of 2013 after a single season. Before Cruikshank parted ways with Nickelodeon that year, he appeared in an episode of the musical sitcom "Big Time Rush" and lent his voice to an episode of the animated series "Monsters vs. Aliens."
