Early Life
Lane Monte Kiffin was born on May 9, 1975, in Lincoln, Nebraska, the son of longtime NFL defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin. Lane attended Bloomington Jefferson High School in Minnesota and went on to play football at Fresno State University. He was the backup quarterback for the Bulldogs before foregoing his senior season to become a Student Assistant Coach for the team.
Coaching Career
Lane Kiffin was working as a graduate assistant at Colorado State in 1999 when he got his first NFL job as a quality control assistant for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Pete Carroll then hired him as the tight ends coach at USC. From 2002 to 2004 he was the wide receivers coach at USC and from 2005 to 2006 he served as offensive coordinator.
Kiffin got his first head coaching job with the Oakland Raiders in 2007 becoming the youngest head coach in Oakland Raiders history. But after a 4-12 season, tensions started to build within the organization, and Lane Kiffin was forced out as coach of the Raiders. His short tenure as an NFL coach ended with a 5-15 record.
Kiffin was hired by Tennessee in 2009 becoming the youngest active head coach in Division I FBS. He then coached at USC after Pete Carroll left in 2010 to become head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. In 2014, Kiffin became the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Alabama under head coach Nick Saban.
In 2016, Lane Kiffin became a head coach once again with Florida Atlantic University. The Owls had a lot of success under his command including a Conference USA Championship, Boca Raton Bowl victory, their first season over .500 since 2008, and several 10-win seasons.
Lane Kiffin became the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels in 2019. The team went 5-5 in his first season leading to an Outback Bowl invitation and victory. The Rebels finished the 2021 regular season at 10-2 after an Egg Bowl win against rival Mississippi State, the first 10-win season in Ole Miss football history.
Contracts & Earnings
Lane Kiffin signed a two-year contract worth around $4 million in 2007 to coach the Oakland Raiders. The contract was terminated with cause leaving the remaining $2.6 million for 2008 on the table. In 2009, he signed a deal with the University of Tennessee for $2 million.
Kiffin's four-year contract with Ole Miss in 2019 totaled $16.2 million. In 2022, it was reported that an extension to stay on as head coach with the Rebels would average around $9 million per year for six years with a rollover option for the seventh season.

Lane Kiffin and his ex-wife, Layla, have three children together. His former father-in-law, John Reaves, was an NFL and USFL quarterback who also played college football for the Florida Gators.
