Farruko, whose real name is Carlos Efrén Reyes Rosado, was born on May 2, 1991 in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.

Career Beginnings

Farruko launched his music career in 2009, using Myspace to build a fanbase. That year, he released his first song online, "Sexo Fuera del Planeta." That song and his subsequent ones became popular on the Internet, eventually drawing the attention of Puerto Rican radio broadcasters.

In 2010, Farruko released his debut album, "El Talento del Bloque." It spawned the successful singles "Nena Fichu," "Su Hija Me Gusta," and "Te Iré a Buscar." His next album, "TMPR The Most Powerful Rookie," came out in 2012. Three of the album's singles became international hits: "Feel the Rhythm," "Titerito," and "Va a Ser Abuela." In 2013, Farruko released "Imperio Nazza: Farruko Edition," which made it to number 13 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart and launched the singles "Besas Tan Bien" and "Voy a 100." With his next album, 2014's "Farruko Presenta: Los Menores," Farruko notched his first number-one hit on the Top Latin Albums chart. He achieved another number-one placement in 2015 with his album "Visionary."

In 2017, Farruko released "TrapXFicante," which peaked at number three on the Top Latin Albums chart. It was followed two years later by "Gangalee," which made it to number two on the chart. Farruko bounced back to the number-one spot in 2021 with "La 167," which also reached number 26 on the Billboard 200. The album includes the single "La Tóxica," which was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Reggaeton Performance. It also spawned the hit singles "Pepas" and "El Incomprendido." In 2022, "La 167" earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Música Urbana Album.

Farruko has found great success collaborating with other Latin artists. Some of his most commercially successful collaborative songs include "Loco Enamorado," with Abraham Mateo and Christian Daniel; "Krippy Kush," with Bad Bunny and Rvssian; "Ponle," with J Balvin and Rvssian; "Si se da," with Myke Towers; "Fantasías," with Rauw Alejandro; and "Si Me Dices Que Sí," with Reik and Camilo.

Farruko has also been a featured artist on numerous songs. In 2013, he was featured on J Balvin's hit single "6 AM." Farruko performs in the reggaeton genre of Latin urban music. His music also showcases influences of Spanish dancehall music, dembow, trival, salsa, guaracha, and EDM, among other genres.

In the spring of 2018, Farruko was arrested in Puerto Rico on charges of hiding over $50,000 in undeclared cash on both his person and in his luggage when returning to Puerto Rico from the Dominican Republic. As a consequence, he was issued three years of probation.

Miami Concert Controversy

In early 2022, during a concert at the FTX Arena in Miami, Florida, Farruko upset his fans when he kept interrupting his performances to talk at length about his devotion to God. His gravitation toward religious piety was too much for many fans, as numerous people left the show early in dismay. Responding to complaints, Farruko announced that his singing persona was "retired" and that he would be henceforth known as Carlos, his birth name. He also said he would refund the money of attendees who were dissatisfied with the concert.
