Early Life
Arcángel, whose real name is Austin Agustín Santos, was born on December 23, 1985 in New York City to Dominican parents. In his early adolescence, he moved with his family to Puerto Rico, where he grew up in Villa Palmeras, Santurce. Influenced by his mother Carmen Rosa, a former member of the all-female merengue group Las Chicas del Can, Agustín Santos got into music early on in life. He was also heavily inspired by Puerto Rican rappers Tempo and Tego Calderón, as well as Puerto Rican pop rock artist Robi Draco Rosa of the boy band Menudo.
Arcángel & De La Ghetto
Arcángel began his professional music career in 2004 as part of the reggaeton duo Arcángel & De La Ghetto. They were eventually signed to Baby Records, a Universal Music Group subsidiary. Arcángel & De La Ghetto had their breakthrough in 2006 with the hit single "Ven y Pégate," which was included on the reggaeton compilation album "Sangre Nueva." The same year, they were featured on another compilation album, "Mas Flow: Los Benjamins." Despite being heavily active on the reggaeton scene, Arcángel & De La Ghetto never released a studio album. Arcángel ultimately left Baby Records in late 2006 to embark on a solo career and found his own label, Flow Factory. He broke up with De La Ghetto early the next year.
Solo Career
Arcángel continued to appear on compilation albums after splitting from De La Ghetto. Among the most notable was 2007's "Flow la Discoteka 2," produced by DJ Nelson. The album included Arcángel's song "Chica Virtual," a solid success on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. In late 2008, Arcángel finally released his debut album, "El Fenómeno." Featuring appearances by Tempo, Don Omar, and J-King, the album reached number 14 on the Top Latin Albums chart and launched the singles "Por Amar a Ciegas" and "Pa' Que la Pases Bien." Following the release, Arcángel went on an international tour, with dates in Germany, Spain, France, and Denmark, among other countries.
In the spring of 2010, Arcángel released his mixtape "The Problem Child." Later in the year, he released another mixtape, "Optimus A.R.C.A." In 2012, Arcángel signed with Pina Records; he released the album "Sentimiento, Elegancia & Maldad" the following year through the label. The album was his biggest commercial success yet, making it to number one on the Latin Albums chart. Arcángel's subsequent albums have included "Ares," "Historias de un Capricornio," and "Sr. Santos." The lattermost album, released in 2022, spawned the Latin hit "La Jumpa," featuring Bad Bunny.

Legal Troubles
In 2012, Arcángel was arrested in San Juan, Puerto Rico for speeding and driving under the influence. He got into more legal trouble in 2019 for committing domestic battery.
Personal Life
Arcángel has two children: a son named Austin Alejandro Santos Pascual and a daughter named Angélica Lucero Santos Figueroa. The mother of the children has not been disclosed, although there are reports that Arcángel was formerly married to a woman named Alejandra Pascual. In late 2021, his younger brother died in a car accident in Puerto Rico.
