Fans of famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright may be interested to know that one of his designs has now sold for $18 million, which Variety reports is the most ever paid for any of the homes designed by Wright. It's the famous Ennis House, located in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.
Even if you're not a Wright fan, there's a good chance you're familiar with the Ennis House, because it's been featured in Hollywood productions going all the way back to 1933, most famously in the film Blade Runner in 1982. But it can also be seen in movies like The Karate Kid Part III, Black Rain and Rush Hour, as well as the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
The Ennis House spans more than 6,000 square feet and has three beds and three and a half bathrooms as well as numerous other amenities, but it's obviously not for any practical features that anyone would pay $18 million for it. The price was reached after about a year on the market and lots of promotion on behalf of supermarket billionaire Ron Burkle, who TMZ reports bought and restored the place back in 2011. He paid $4.5 million for the house itself but then spent some $17 million restoring it to its former glory, so even with its place in the record books, the sale was still at a loss for its now former owner.
The $18 million sale handily beat the record for most expensive Frank Lloyd Wright house, which was held by the Storer House, elsewhere in Hollywood, which sold for $6.8 million in 2013.

Hopefully for the public, the house's new owners will continue to allow it to be used in movies and TV shows going forward.
And who exactly are the new owners? The buyers are married couple Cindy Capobianco and Robert Rosenheck. Together they co-founded luxury marijuana brand Lord Jones. In April 2019, they sold Lord Jones to a company called Cronos Group for $300 million.
So ya. They have some cash.
