Early Life and Education

Junior Career

Collegiate Career

For college, Vollmer elected to attend the University of Houston, where he played for the Cougars football team. After redshirting as a freshman in 2004, he made eight appearances as a reserve tight end in 2005. However, due to back surgery, Vollmer eventually switched to left tackle. As a senior at Houston in 2008, he was named to the First-Team All-Conference USA.

New England Patriots

In the 2009 NFL Draft, Vollmer was chosen by the New England Patriots in the second round with the 58th overall pick. He made his NFL debut in the Patriots' season opener, and made his first start at left tackle in the team's record-setting 59-0 victory against the Tennessee Titans in Week 6. The Patriots made it to the playoffs, where they fell to the Baltimore Ravens. In 2010, Vollmer started all 16 regular-season games for the Patriots at right tackle. He was named to the AP All-Pro second team, and earned a Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award as part of the Patriots' offensive line.
