Early Life and High School

Pierre Garçon was born on August 8, 1986 in West Palm Beach, Florida. He is of Haitian descent, and is bilingual. As a teenager, Garçon attended John I. Leonard Community High School in Greenacres, Florida, where he played both football and soccer. On the football team, he earned two varsity letters.

Collegiate Career

Garçon began his collegiate career at Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont in 2004. As a freshman, he recorded 44 receptions for 1,017 yards and 13 touchdowns in ten games. Desiring a more football-oriented program, Garçon transferred to Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio for the remainder of his collegiate career. As a sophomore, he recorded 68 receptions for 1,196 yards and 16 touchdowns. In his junior season, Garçon was third in the nation with 1,212 receiving yards to go along with his 67 receptions and 17 touchdowns. As a senior, he posted 67 receptions for 955 yards and 14 touchdowns. Garçon finished his career at Mount Union having helped lead the Purple Raiders to two consecutive NCAA Division III Football Championships. He also ran track while at the school.

Indianapolis Colts

In the 2008 NFL Draft, Garçon was chosen in the sixth round with the 205th overall pick by the Indianapolis Colts. He went on to spend his rookie season as a backup receiver, recording just four catches for 23 yards. Going into the 2009 season, Garçon was named the backup to Reggie Wayne. However, after Anthony Gonzalez sustained an injury in the first game of the season, Garçon joined the starting lineup. He made his first career start in a Week 2 game against the Miami Dolphins, and scored his first career touchdown. Garçon continued to start games until a hand injury sidelined him for the final two games of the season. He finished the 2009 season with 47 receptions for 765 yards and four touchdowns.

In 2010, Garçon started in most of the season's games, except for those in Weeks 3 and 4. Against the Washington Redskins in Week 6, he made a memorable one-handed catch. Garçon finished the season with 67 receptions for 784 yards and six touchdowns. He went on to have his best season with the Colts in 2011, which would be his final season on the team. Starting in all 16 games, Garçon recorded 70 receptions for 947 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Washington Redskins

Garçon signed a five-year contract with the Washington Redskins in March of 2012. In the season opener, he scored a touchdown as the Redskins defeated the New Orleans Saints 40-32. However, Garçon struggled with a foot injury during that game, causing him to miss the entire second half. He continued to have foot problems throughout the season that sidelined him for several games. Garçon finished 2012 with 44 receptions for 633 yards and four touchdowns. Having recovered from his ailments, Garçon had his best career season ever in 2013. In a Week 9 victory over the San Diego Chargers, he reached a new single-game career high of 172 receiving yards. Later, in Week 16, Garçon broke the Redskins' all-time franchise record for single-season receptions, with 107. He finished the 2013 season with a league-leading 113 receptions for a career high of 1,346 yards. Meanwhile, Garçon's 184 targets ranked number one among NFL wide receivers that year.

In the 2014 season, Garçon posted 68 receptions for 752 yards and three touchdowns. The next season, he developed a strong partnership with quarterback Kirk Cousins and made a number of tough catches with the aim of pushing the Redskins to a playoff appearance. His efforts paid off, as the team won the NFC East title and reached the Wild Card Round against the Green Bay Packers. Ultimately, the Packers won. Including the postseason, Garçon finished the year with 77 receptions for 847 yards and six touchdowns. In his final season with the Redskins in 2016, Garçon caught his 500th career reception. He finished the season with 79 receptions for 1,041 yards and three touchdowns.

San Francisco 49ers

In March of 2017, Garçon signed a five-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers. He made his debut for the team in the season-opening loss to the Carolina Panthers, recording six receptions for 81 yards. Garçon started the first eight games of the season until he was placed on injured reserve in early November with a neck injury, ending his season. He was placed on injured reserve for the second straight year in 2018 after undergoing knee surgery, once again limiting his season to eight games. In early 2019, the 49ers declined the option on Garçon's contract, making him a free agent.

Business and Charity

Beyond football, Garçon is a co-owner of the Washington, DC-based pizza chain SpinFire. He has regularly spent time at each of the chain's locations, doing everything from greeting diners to taking out the trash.

During his NFL rookie season in 2008, Garçon founded his own charitable foundation. Through his foundation, he helped out in the wake of Hurricane Matthew in Haiti by bringing medical supplies and bottled water to the country.
