Lucas Black was born on November 29, 1982 in Decatur, Alabama to office worker Jan and museum employee Larry. He has two older siblings and was brought up in the Southern Baptist faith. Growing up in Speake, Alabama, Black played high school football for the Speake Bobcats. He graduated in 2001.

Film Career

Black made his feature film debut at the age of 11, playing Ebb Lipnicki in the 1994 drama "The War." Two years after that, he appeared in Billy Bob Thornton's "Sling Blade" and Rob Reiner's "Ghosts of Mississippi." In 1998, Black had a small part in the big-screen adaptation of the television series "The X-Files." He had a bigger role the following year in Antonio Banderas's "Crazy in Alabama," starring as a teenager living in small-town Alabama circa 1965. Black also lent his voice to the direct-to-video animated children's educational film "Our Friend, Martin." Commencing the new millennium, he appeared in Billy Bob Thornton's adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel "All the Pretty Horses." On the small screen, Black first appeared on the CBS horror series "American Gothic," starring as orphan Caleb Temple. The show was ultimately short-lived, running for a single season from 1995 to 1996. After that, Black appeared in a 1997 episode of the medical drama series "Chicago Hope." The same year, he starred in the Disney television film "Flash," playing a 14-year-old boy in Georgia who becomes deeply attached to a young horse being put up for sale. Black returned to television in 2000 to appear in another made-for-TV Disney movie, "The Miracle Worker," based on the play by William Gibson. Following a long break from the small screen, he landed the main role of Special Agent Christopher LaSalle on the CBS series "NCIS: New Orleans," which premiered in 2014. Black left the show during the sixth season in 2019 to spend more time with his family.
