Early Life
Joyce Giraud was born Joyce Marie Giraud Mojica on April 4, 1975, in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico. Joyce graduated from high school when she was 16 years old, and she took a job at KFC, where she was discovered by a photographer in the drive-thru. The photographer asked Giraud to model for a campaign, and she kept modeling while she attended the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. Joyce graduated at the age of 19 with degrees in Special Education and Social Work, then she worked with public housing projects and underprivileged children.
Career
Giraud has graced many magazine covers, and when she was crowned the winner of the 1994 Miss World Puerto Rico pageant, she also earned the titles of Most Beautiful Smile, Best Runway, Most Beautiful Hair, and Most Beautiful Face. Joyce won the 1998 Miss Universe Puerto Rico pageant, and though she almost lost her crown due to some risqué modeling photos, she was ultimately allowed to compete in the Miss Universe 1998 pageant, where she was the second runner-up. That year she published the book "Joyce, Dreams and Realities," which was about her experiences with the pageant. Giraud was soon cast in the lead role in the 1999 film "Coralito Tiene Dos Maridos," earning positive reviews for her performance. She later moved to Miami, Florida, then Los Angeles, California. In 2000, Joyce appeared in the 98 Degrees music video "Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)," had an uncredited role in the film "Dude, Where's My Car?," and guest-starred on "Baywatch" and "The Bold and the Beautiful." Joyce married Michael Ohoven on March 8, 2009, and they welcomed son Leonardo Alexander Michael Mario Benjamin Giraud de Ohoven in 2010, followed by Michael Valentino Mario Arthur Benjamin Giraud de Ohoven in 2011. Ohoven is a producer who earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Motion Picture of the Year for the 2005 film "Capote." Giraud has worked with the charitable organization the UNESCO Foundation for Children in Need (YOU Foundation for Children in Need), and she established Queen of the Universe, an international beauty pageant that gives women the opportunity to "promote their charity work and pursue their life's goals." Joyce's work with Queen of the Universe enabled her to open a school in Senegal, Africa, with the YOU Foundation for Children in Need.
