He was drafted #31 by the Chicago Bears in the 2007 NFL Draft. Olsen played for the Chicago Bears from 2007 to 2010, then played for the Carolina Panthers from 2011 to 2020. He retired after a season with the Seattle Seahawks. In 2007 he was a PFW/PFWA All-Rookie Team selection and won the Brian Piccolo Award. Olsen was selected to the USA Today All-Joe Team in 2012 and 2013. He won the NFC Championship with Carolina in 2015 and was a Pro Bowl selection in 2014 and 2015. Olsen was a Second-team All-Pro in 2014 a Pro Football Focus All-Pro in 2015. He is a two time PFWA All-NFC selection and won the Ed Block Courage Award in 2015.

During his NFL career Greg earned $70 million in salary. Upon retiring from the NFL, Greg became a commentator for Fox Sports.

Early Life and College Career

Greg Olsen was born in Paterson, New Jersey in March 1985. He was a USA Today First-Team All-American at Wayne Hills High School. He initially attended the University of Notre Dame but transferred to the University of Miami after his freshman year. At Miami, Olsen thrived, earning All-ACC honors and becoming a crucial part of the Hurricanes' potent offense.

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears selected Olsen in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft, making him the first tight end taken that year. He quickly made a name for himself with his pass-catching ability and versatility, becoming a favorite target of Bears quarterbacks.

Carolina Panthers and Beyond

In 2011, Olsen was traded to the Carolina Panthers, where his career truly took off. He became an essential part of the Panthers' offense, developing a strong rapport with quarterback Cam Newton. Between 2012 and 2016, Olsen recorded five straight seasons with over 800 receiving yards, including three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, a record for a tight end at the time.

Olsen earned Pro Bowl honors in 2014, 2015, and 2016, and was a key contributor in the Panthers' run to Super Bowl 50. Despite battling injuries in the later stages of his career, Olsen remained a reliable and productive player. He spent the 2020 season with the Seattle Seahawks before retiring from professional football in January 2021.
