What is Winnie Harlow's Net Worth?
Winnie Harlow is a fashion model who has a net worth of $5 million. Winnie Harlow gained widespread recognition in 2014 as a contestant in the 21st cycle of the reality television series "America's Next Top Model." Since her time on the show, she has appeared in many magazines, commercials, advertising campaigns, and fashion events. Among Harlow's distinguishing features is her vitiligo, a skin condition for which she has become a public spokesperson. She has appeared in the music videos "Guts Over Fear" by Eminem ft. Sia, "The One" by JMSN, and "Lemonade" by Beyoncé.
Early Life
Winnie Harlow was born as Chantelle Whitney Brown-Young on July 27, 1994 in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada to Lisa and Windsor. She is of Jamaican descent, and has two sisters. When she was four, Harlow was diagnosed with the skin condition vitiligo, which causes portions of the skin to lose pigmentation. Due to the constant bullying she received for her condition, she frequently changed schools and ended up dropping out of high school.
America's Next Top Model
Harlow first gained widespread recognition in 2014 when she competed on the reality television series "America's Next Top Model." Discovered on Instagram by host Tyra Banks, she ended up as one of the 14 finalists in the show's 21st cycle. Notably, she was the only Canadian to ever be cast on the series. Eliminated in the second week of the finals, Harlow went on to participate in a separate competition known as the comeback series. In that series, she competed alongside other eliminated contestants in an effort to return to the main competition. Harlow ended up winning the comeback series, securing her return. Ultimately, she was eliminated again in episode 13, coming in sixth place overall.
Modeling Career
After "America's Next Top Model," Harlow began modeling for the Spanish fashion label Desigual, becoming its official brand representative. She subsequently walked the runway at London Fashion Week for the fashion brand Ashish. In 2015, Harlow modeled for the Italian retail clothing company Diesel, and appeared in such magazines as Complex, Cosmopolitan, Ebony, and the Spanish and Italian editions of Glamour.
Harlow has modeled for a number of advertising campaigns over the years. She has appeared in campaigns for such brands as Fendi, Swarovski, Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs, Nike, Puma, and Victoria's Secret, and in a commercial for Sprite. Harlow also walked in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in 2018, making her the first model with vitiligo to have done so.
Vitiligo Public Speaking
Due to her experiences with vitiligo, Harlow has been a public spokesperson for the condition, even before she started modeling. In 2011, she posted a video on YouTube entitled "Vitiligo: A Skin Condition, not a Life Changer," in which she fielded questions and discussed her life with vitiligo. Later, in 2014, Harlow spoke about her condition in a TEDx presentation.
Other Appearances
Beyond modeling and public speaking, Harlow has appeared in some music videos. The first two, both from 2014, were for JMSN's "The One" and Eminem's "Guts Over Fear," featuring Sia. In 2016, Harlow briefly appeared in the visual album of Beyoncé's "Lemonade." Her other music video credits have included Calvin Harris and Sam Smith's "Promises" and Wizkid's "True Love."
Harlow has also made some further appearances on television. In 2015, she showed up in the tenth season of the ABC hidden camera series "What Would You Do?," hosted by John Quiñones. Later, in 2020, Harlow made guest appearances in episodes of two reality competition series: "RuPaul's Drag Race" and "Legendary." On the former show, she served as a guest judge in the episode "Madonna: The Unauthorized Rusical," alongside US representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Business Ventures
In early 2022, Harlow founded the skincare and sun care brand Cay Skin. She was inspired to start the venture due to having been badly sunburned during a photoshoot when the photographer requested that she not reapply sunscreen so as to avoid the white residue left behind. Cay Skin products are designed to not leave behind that residue.
Real Estate
In December 2020, Winnie paid $3.298 million for a home in Tarzana, California. She listed this home for sale in March 2024 for $3.695 million.
