What is Mike Jones's Net Worth?
Mike Jones is a rapper who has a net worth of $1 million. Mike Jones rose to fame in 2004 with his single "Still Tippin'." He subsequently released the successful single "Back Then" and his debut studio album, "Who is Mike Jones?," which was certified Platinum by the RIAA. Jones went on to release the EP "The American Dream" in 2007 and the studio album "The Voice" in 2009.
Early Life and Education
Mike Jones was born on November 18, 1981 in Houston, Texas. Growing up, he aspired to become an NBA player, and played in YMCA leagues. Jones attended Booker T. Washington High School, but eventually dropped out. He then worked at a Compaq plant and resold cell phones.
Career Beginnings
Jones started his music career in the group Souf Folk. With the group, he released the album "Country Thuggin." In 2001, he established his own independent record label, Ice Age Entertainment, and began his solo career as a rapper. Jones promoted and distributed his music on the streets and in strip clubs. Eventually, he signed with the independent southern rap record label Swishahouse, the namesake of a Houston-based hip hop collective.
Studio Albums and EP
In late 2004, Jones had his commercial breakthrough with the single "Still Tippin'." Featuring appearances by rappers Slim Thug and Paul Wall, the song reached number 60 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 14 on the Hot Rap Songs chart. It later went Platinum. Jones had an even bigger hit with his follow-up single, "Back Then," which peaked at number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number six on the Hot Rap Songs chart in early 2005. Both songs were featured on Jones's debut studio album, "Who is Mike Jones?," which came out in April of 2005. A major commercial success, the album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and was soon certified Platinum by the RIAA.
In 2006, Jones released the single "Mr. Jones." The next year, he released the single "My 64," featuring Bun B and Snoop Dogg. Both tracks were included on his 2007 EP "The American Dream," which was accompanied by an auto-fictional DVD movie. Shortly after the release of the EP, Jones dropped the single "Drop & Gimme 50," featuring Hurricane Chris. That was followed by the singles "Cuddy Buddy" and "Next to You." Jones went on to release his second solo studio album, "The Voice," in 2009; it debuted at number 12 on the Billboard 200. In addition to the previously released singles, the album included the singles "Swagg Thru Da Roof," featuring Swole, and "Boi!," featuring Young Problemz.
Hiatus, Unreleased Albums, and Mixtapes
After the release of "The Voice," Jones took a hiatus due to financial disputes with his former label Asylum Records. He announced his return in the summer of 2012, saying that he was finished with his next studio album, "Where is Mike Jones?," and was working on another album called "WHO!Print." However, neither album was released. Instead, on Halloween in 2013, Jones released a mixtape entitled "Back Ballin' Underground." At the end of 2014, he released a new single entitled "3 Grams," featuring Slim Thug and Yung Duece. Jones subsequently released the mixtape "Money Train" on New Year's Day, 2015. A sequel entitled "Money Train: Reloaded" was soon announced. Later, in 2021, Jones announced a record deal with RBC Records, and teased a third studio album called "Guap Season."
Acting Career
Jones has acted on a few occasions. In 2005, he played Darius Morgan in the first season of the Fox television series "Prison Break." Two years later, he had a brief role as a detective in the horror film "Furnace."
Feuds
In 2004, Jones got into a feud with fellow Houston-based rapper Chamillionaire after Chamillionaire criticized the Houston hip hop scene. Jones's record label Swishahouse took offense, firing back at Chamillionaire, causing Chamillionaire to accuse Jones of slander. Chamillionaire went on to record a number of diss tracks targeting Jones, releasing them on his mixtape "King Koopa: The Mixtape Messiah." The feud cooled by 2008, and Chamillionaire apologized to Jones in 2010.
Jones had another feud with a Houston rapper, Trae The Truth, in 2008. At that year's Ozone Awards, the two got into a physical altercation that resulted in a broken nose for Jones after he was punched twice in the face. The two eventually resolved their beef and reconciled.
