What Is Jeremy Shockey's Net Worth?

Jeremy Shockey is an American professional football player who has a net worth of $15 million. Jeremy Shockey played for the University of Miami, where he led the team to the state championships during his junior year. He was chosen by the New York Giants as the 14th overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft, and he played for the team until 2007.  Jeremy played for the New Orleans Saints from 2008 to 2010, and in March 2011, he signed a one-year, $4 million deal with the Carolina Panthers. In 2002, he won the first Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year Award, and in 2005, he was named NFL Alumni Tight End of the Year. Shockey was selected for the Pro Bowl in 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2006, and he was on the winning team at the Super Bowl for the 2007 season (Giants) and 2009 season (Saints). In 2015, he appeared as himself in an episode of the HBO series "Ballers."

Early Life

Jeremy Shockey was born Jeremy Charles Shockey on August 18, 1980, in Ada, Oklahoma. He attended Ada High School, where he lettered in football all four seasons and mostly played the positions of wide receiver and outside linebacker. During his senior year, Jeremy caught 50 passes for more than 1,100 yards. That year he was selected for the Oklahoma All-District, All-State, and All-County teams. College Career

After graduating from high school, Jeremy enrolled at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, hoping to be recruited by the University of Arizona. After learning that Arizona wasn't interested, Shockey attended the University of Miami on a scholarship. He played the position of tight end on the Miami Hurricanes, and during his sophomore year, the team ended the season with an 11–1 record. The league's coaches, "College Football News," and "The Sporting News" bestowed first-team All-Big East honors on him. In 2001, Jeremy led the Hurricanes with eight touchdowns, 45 receptions, and 604 receiving yards. He was a finalist for the Mackey Award, and CNN/"Sports Illustrated" (CNNSI) named him a first-team All-American. Shockey was also named a second-team All-American by CBS Sportsline, the Associated Press, and ABC Sports. Jeremy opted to declare for the NFL Draft rather than finish college.

Professional Career

During the 2002 NFL Draft, Shockey was the 14th overall pick and was selected by the New York Giants. He won the Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year award, and he was chosen for the Pro Bowl in 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2006. In October 2005, Jeremy signed a five-year contract extension worth $26.38 million, making him the NFL's highest-paid tight end. During a December 2007 game against the Washington Redskins, Shockey fractured his fibula and damaged his ankle. He subsequently underwent surgery and had to sit out the rest of the season. The Giants won the NEC title that season and defeated the New England Patriots 17–14 in Super Bowl XLII. Jeremy wasn't able to play in the Super Bowl, and he declined to participate in team celebrations, such as a tribute to the Giants that took place at the White House. Shockey was traded to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for two picks in the 2009 draft. After three games with his new team, Jeremy had to sit out five games due to a sports hernia. In 2009, he caught 48 passes for 569 yards and averaged nearly 12 yards per reception. He played in Super Bowl XLIV, and the team defeated the Indianapolis Colts 31–17. It was the Saints' first Super Bowl win in the history of the franchise. The team released Shockey in February 2011, and the following month, the Carolina Panthers signed him to a one-year deal worth $4 million (with $1 million guaranteed). He played in 15 games with the team and caught 37 passes for 455 yards.

Personal Life

Jeremy married Daniela Cortazar on May 19, 2012. Eight months later, he filed for divorce because the marriage was "irretrievably broken." In March 2020, Fox Sports reported that Cortazar wanted Shockey to be fined or jailed, stating, "The former couple have been fighting over alimony. Shockey claims to have a solid prenup, but Daniela says that Shockey isn't being honest and is claiming to know nothing about his finances. Apparently, he's also saying that he doesn't know how his bills get paid and is refusing to hand over any financial documents."

During a 2002 radio interview on "The Howard Stern Show," producer Gary Del 'Abate asked Jeremy if he thought the NFL had any gay players at the time, and Shockey responded, "I don't know, I don't like to think about that. I hope not." He also said, "If I knew there was a gay guy on my college football team, I probably wouldn't, you know, stand for it." Jeremy added, "I think, you know, they're going to be in the shower with us and stuff, so I don't think that's gonna work. That's not gonna work, you know?" Shockey later spoke to the "New York Daily News" about his comments, stating, "I guess I do regret saying it. I didn't think anyone was going to make a big deal out of it. I'm not prejudiced against anybody's beliefs or what they do in their off time. I do regret saying something like that. Whatever I did to offend people, I apologize. I'm not prejudiced in any way."

Real Estate

In 2015, Jeremy paid $1.75 million for a five-bedroom, 5.5-bathroom mansion in Miami, Florida. In June 2020, he listed the home for sale for $4 million and simultaneously made it available to rent for $20,000 per month. In late 2023, Shockey put the estate back on the market for $6.5 million, also offering it for rent for $45,000 per month. Around the time he purchased the home, he also listed his three-bedroom, three-bathroom Miami condo for $3 million, and it sold for $2.4 million. Jeremy paid $1.45 million for the property in 2005.
