He played in the Ontario Hockey League for the Brampton Battalion, Mississauga IceDogs, Windsor Spitfires, and Belleville Bulls. Spezza also played in the American Hockey League for the Grand Rapids Griffins and Binghamton Senators. He was drafted #2 by the Ottawa Senators in the 2001 NHL Draft.
