AOL cofounder Steve Case and his wife Jean have listed their McLean, Virginia manor for sale for $49.5 million. The estate was built in 1919 and is called Merrywood. It was the childhood home of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The regal mansion is situated in a very affluent suburb of Washington, D.C.
Other famous inhabitants of the Georgian-style mansion include Gore Vidal and radio personality Nancy Dickerson and her husband Wyatt Dickerson. Its $49.5 million price tag makes it the most expensive property for sale in the area.
The 23,000 square-foot century year old home has been renovated extensively over the years. It has nine bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, a wine cellar, and a formal dining and sitting room, just to name a few of the home's many rooms. It sits on seven private acres on the Potomac River. Its grounds feature lush rolling lawns, formal gardens, a swimming pool, tennis court, and a pavilion containing an indoor pool, gym, and changing rooms. The property also has a carriage house, which holds offices and staff quarters.
If Merrywood fetches its asking price of $49.5 million, it will set a record for the most expensive home sold in the area. The previous record was set in 2005, when Case bought Merrywood for $24.5 million.
