Early Life and Education

Matthew Morrison was born on October 30, 1978 in Fort Ord, California to Thomas and Mary, and was raised in Chico. He is of English and Scottish descent. Growing up, Morrison belonged to the Buena Park Youth theater, and was also a member of the Orange County School of the Arts and the Collaborative Arts Project 21. He went to Los Alamitos High School as a teen, and subsequently attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. After two years at NYU, Morrison dropped out to pursue his professional acting career.

Television Career

Morrison made his debut on television in 1997, appearing in an episode of the short-lived ABC drama series "Relativity." Two years later, he was in an episode of "Sex and the City." Morrison didn't return to the small screen until 2003, when he had a guest role on the crime drama series "Hack." He followed this with a supporting role in the television movie "Once Upon a Mattress." In 2006, Morrison made an appearance on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," and also had his first regular role on a series on the soap opera "As the World Turns." He was subsequently in episodes of "Ghost Whisperer," "CSI: Miami," and "Numbers," and was part of the ensemble cast of the television film "Taking Chance."

Morrison began his biggest television role yet in 2009, playing high school teacher Will Schuester on the Fox musical dramedy series "Glee." Morrison first appeared on the big screen in 2001 with a small part in the English-language Indian dramedy "Bollywood Calling." He had another small role two years later in the romcom "Marci X," starring Lisa Kudrow and Damon Wayans. In 2007, Morrison appeared in another romcom, "Music and Lyrics," starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. The same year, he had a bit part in the dramedy "Dan in Real Life." Morrison had a bigger role in the 2012 romcom "What to Expect When You're Expecting," playing the father of the main character's baby girl. The film's large ensemble cast also features Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Ben Falcone, Elizabeth Banks, Anna Kendrick, Chris Rock, and Dennis Quaid, among others.
