Sopranos Creator David Chase Buys Santa Monica Villa For $6.7 Million

David Chase, best known as the creator of the groundbreaking HBO original series The Sopranos, has purchased a new home in an exclusive neighborhood of Santa Monica, California. Variety reports that the renowned TV auteur spent close to $6.7 million on the Spanish-style villa that dates all the way back to the 1930s.

Despite its vintage, the house has been extensively updated and modernized. It's spread across 5,225 square feet, with six bedrooms and seven bathrooms, all located behind a large gate and hedges. As this excerpt from the home's official real estate listing mentions, privacy is at a high priority with this particular property:

"Surrounded by beautiful mature trees & affording unusual privacy, this timeless, classic home is flooded in natural light & features loft-like, open, free flowing spaces, high ceilings & an ideal indr/outdr lifestyle."

Amenities of the home include a stone fireplace in the living room, a media/game room, and a climate-controlled wine cellar, and the second floor's master suite also has its own fireplace in a private sitting area, plus a private terrace. Outside you'll find a swimming pool with its own cabana and outdoor kitchen as well as a detached guest cottage.

Chase's purchase of his new home comes as he's reportedly sold two neighboring apartments in the same Chelsea, New York apartment building. The first he purchased back in 2012 and sold earlier this year for $7.6 million, unfortunately at a loss of more than $2 million compared to what he'd paid for it. The second was bought in 2014 for $4.6 million, and sold three years later, also at a loss (this one of about $350,000). Hopefully, if he ever decides to part with his recent purchase, he'll be able to do so under more financially favorable conditions.
