Steven Stamkos is a Canadian professional hockey player who has a net worth of $55 million. Steven Stamkos is best known for his position as centre for the Tampa Bay Lighting in the National Hockey League.

He was the first overall pick in the 2006 draft for the Ontario Hockey League and was chosen first overall by Tampa Bay in the 2008 NHL draft. He's a two-time Rocket Richard Trophy winner as the NHL's leading goal-scorer in 2010 and 2012. He also has two Stanley Cups to his name which he won back-to-back in 2020 and 2021. Early Life

Steven Stamkos was born on February 7, 1990. He's of Macedonian and Scottish descent. He grew up in Unionville, Ontario, and played for the Markham Waxers in the Eastern AAA Hockey League of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA). His talent was evident early on, winning eight consecutive OMHA titles during his minor hockey years. In 2006 he led his team to the OHL Cup victory.

Junior Playing Career

After an impressive, title-winning 2006 season in which he scored 197 points in 66 games, Sarnia Sting picked Stamkos as first overall in the 2006 OHL Draft. He attended Northern Collegiate Institute and Vocational School and was named to the OHL Second All-Rookie Team. On top of his on-ice success, he also took home the Bobby Smith Trophy as the OHL's scholastic player of the year. The next season, he kept up his point-scoring ability and offensive prowess which attracted attention from NHL scouts.

Tampa Bay Lightning

Stamkos had built up a reputation as one of thе brightеst young talеnts in thе gamе. So, it was no surprise that he was selected first overall by Tampa Bay in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He quickly signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Lightning and kicked off his professional career.

He played in his first NHL game at the start of the 2008–09 season and announced himself as an elite goal-scorer early in his career. He recorded his first NHL hat-trick on February 17, 2009 and won his first Rocket Richard Trophy as the NHL's leading goal-scorer that season when he tallied 51 goals.

During the 2011 off-season, Stamkos became a restricted free agent but he re-signed with Tampa Bay on a five-year contract a couple of days later. He won the Rocket Richard Trophy again that year by scoring an incredible 60 goals, becoming just the 20th player in NHL history to reach that milestone at the time. On March 18, 2013 he fired home his 200th career goal.

Stamkos kept rising to stardom with the Tampa Bay Lightning and was named their new captain in March 2014. When the Tampa Bay Lightning drafted Stamkos in 2008 he inked a three-year $11,175,000 contract including a $262,500 signing bonus. His next big deal came in 2011 when he signed a five-year $37,500,000 contract with the Lightning. He then struck gold in 2016 after agreeing to an eight-year $68,000,000 contract extension.

Following his NHL draft Stamkos landed several sponsorship deals, most notably signing an athlete's agreement with Nike. The Sarnia Sting announced it was retiring Stamkos' number 91 in 2017 and made it official in 2018. Stamkos is the first player to have his jersey retired in the Sting's entire history.
